Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE L. SMITH On Thursday, April 28, 2005, George passed away at the Morris General Hospital at the age of 88 years. George was born, raised, and resided in Morris. In 1935 he received his Journeyman Electrician's License, established and operated Smith's Radio Electric for 65 years. During the Second World War George joined the air force and because of his technical background in radio, spent most of the war years in Newfoundland, maintaining coded radio equipment used for communicating with ships and aircraft. George married Marion Doris Smith in 1944. Together they successfully operated Smith's Radio Electric until Marion's death in 1982. George was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion Morris Branch No. 111 and served as a councillor for the Town of Morris for 14 years. He was also a member of the Valley Agricultural Society and for many years was involved with the Manitoba Stampede and Exhibition. George is survived by his sister Lorraine (Orville) Anderson of Red Deer, AB, his brother Nelson (Doris) of Winnipeg and sister-in-law Bertha Smith of Ochre River, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Marion; and parents, James and Ruth Smith. Funeral services will be held at the Morris United Church on Tuesday, May 3 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Jack Ballantine-Dickson officiating. Interment in the Morris Cemetery. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Morris United Church Memorial Fund or a charity of your choice.
