LUVENA CATHERINE MILLINGTON (nee CARRICO) It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister on April 19, 2005 at the Misericordia Health Centre. Luvena is survived by her daughter Shirley (Emile) and Beverley (Gerald); 10 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren. She also leaves to mourn her passing her sister Irene Alger and her brothers, Melvin and Martin, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Les in 2002 and her son Jim in 2005, also by her sister Lillian and brother Bernard. Luvena was born on September 1, 1912 in Rowley, AB. After graduating from high school she got her teacher's certificate and taught in southern Alberta schools. She married Les in 1936 in Vancouver, BC and moved to Manitoba. Their marriage of 66 years remains an example of unconditional love for all to strive for. After residing 25 years in St. Norbert, MB, raising their three children and working in the dairy business, Mom and Dad moved to southern Ontario. They spent many wonderful years travelling world wide in connection with their livestock export business. Upon retiring in 1980 they returned to their beloved Manitoba and continued their travels in the winter months to Florida and Texas. Mom was a gentle, courageous lady with a wonderful sense of humour. She was an excellent cook and delighted in preparing meals for her family and friends. When her health began to fail, Mom showed courage and strength. She chose to dwell on her many continued blessings. Upon the sudden death of her son Jim on April 7, 2005, Mom's health declined very rapidly. She trusted in God's promise of eternal life and now dwells in His kingdom, reunited with those whom she loved who have gone before. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Misericordia Health Centre for the compassionate care extended to Mom. We would also like to thank her many friends and care givers at the Portsmouth Retirement Centre. A mass to celebrate Mom and Jim's life will be held on Tuesday, May 3 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Vital Roman Catholic Church, 1629 Pembina Hwy. with Rev. Dr. Patrick A. Morand officiating. A private family interment will take place at a later date. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Mom's memory to League for Life, 579 DesMeurons. A star appeared in Heaven today One from our Earth below. A star we wanted for ourselves And hoped would never go. The star shone always brightly here And helped light up our way It gave us strength and courage And we wanted it to stay. A long lifetime of glittering And loving us every one, The star stayed lit and bright for us, Even when it's mate was gone. The star looked up to Heaven And wondered if it might Lay down its head, turn off its light, And have a peaceful night. God beckoned to His faithful star, And said, Come back to me. Our star took one last look at us Then rose up, new and free. Yes, a star appeared in Heaven today We can wish on it every night. It will still watch over and guide us With its new bright Heavenly light. By granddaughter, Jane GREEN ACRES Funeral Home and Cemetery Hwy. #1 E. at Navin, (204) 222-3241
