OLIVE PARKER (NEPARKO) Peacefully in the early hours of Monday, April 25, 2005, at the Riverview Health Centre, Olive passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her brother Edward Neparko of rural Clinton, Oklahoma; her sister-in-law Mary Neparko of Santa Fe, New Mexico; her nephew Yasha Neparko and his wife, Shannon of Vado, New Mexico; her niece Felicia Neparko of Lafayette, Colorado; her cousin Pearl Zahaiko and the extended family of her godmother's children, Olga Lewicki and Anne Jast to whom she was very close. Olive was predeceased by her parents, Paraskevia and Frank Neparko and her beloved godchild, Kate Jast. Olive was born in Winnipeg on May 12, 1927 and spent her life in the North End. She graduated from Isaac Newton School and held several secretarial positions in the city before joining Allied Farm Equipment, later part of Buhler Industries. She moved on to organize the lives and offices of several dentists, most recently that of Dr. John Campbell. Olive was a wonderful employee: independent, dedicated, hard working and diligent. Olive was most happy in her garden. She delighted in the Spring when a respite from the harsh Manitoba winter allowed her to once more dig her hands into the soil. She puttered for hours in her yard, nursing seeds into beautiful plants and sharing the products with friends and neighbours. Olive was a most generous and kind-hearted person. She was always first to offer assistance in times of need or medical emergencies. Even as her own health deteriorated, she was most concerned that she was becoming a burden to others. Olive had a beautiful alto voice and a natural ability to harmonize. Christmas carols around the dining room table will not be the same without her. Her friendly demeanour and positive outlook on life will be missed by many. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service and interment of ashes will take place on Olive's birthday, Thursday, May 12 at 11:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Cemetery, Garden of Everlasting Life. A reception will follow in the adjoining funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Olive's memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, St. Boniface Unit, O Blk. - 409 Tache Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2H 2A6 or Seven Oaks Hospital Oncology Unit, 2300 McPhillips St., Winnipeg, MB R2V 3M3.
