He worked at a variety of jobs while growing up, the main one being Murray Motors. He left Souris in 1954 and worked as an assistant and manager for several grain companies for 17 years, living in Portage la Prairie, McGregor and Darlingford, MB and Goodeve, Thaxted and Dinsmore, SK during that time. In 1973, he became a partner and operating manager in Bison Seed and Grain in Cypress River, MB, where he resided until his passing. He retired in 1991 and has since enjoyed a variety of short term jobs and volunteer work. He developed excellent child care skills from babysitting his grandchildren which he enjoyed very much. He was also very active in the P.C. Party of MB and the Carberry Evangelical Free Church, where he and Ethel had attended for the past 20 years. He had an outstanding work ethic, which he instilled in each of his children and was willing to tackle any job, large or small. He loved to sing and was known in many towns where he lived for his excellent whistling skills while working or walking. He was an excellent athlete and keen spectator of many sports. He played hockey in Souris (goaltender) as he grew up ad played ball and curled in many of the towns he lived in. He enjoyed being with people very much and made friends easily wherever he lived. Family gatherings were always a highlight for him as well. He had a wonderful sense of humor and quick wit, even to his last moments with us. We, his family are deeply grateful to God for giving us such a faithful husband and father, we will pass on the many things he taught us to our children. Special thanks to the doctors and staff of Glenboro Hospital for the outstanding care Dad received in the final days of his life.
