Date of Passing: May 03, 2005
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELEN EDNA OSTAPCHUK Surrounded by loving family members, Helen (nee Kurbis) died at Grace Hospital May 3, 2005. She is survived by husband Fred and sisters, Irene Audley (Cliff), Ella Harlos (Ervan), Marlene Schlippert (Arnie), as well as six nieces and nephews she dearly loved, including godchildren, Lois, Ron and Carolyn. She was predeceased by parents Elsie and Frank Kurbis and brother Walter. Helen loved much and was much loved. Three constants in her life were faith, family, friends. Nieces and nephews waited for Auntie Helen to arrive at family gatherings because then the fun would begin. They loved to try and scare her and she always complied wonderfully. Children in the neighbourhood knew Mrs. Helen always had treats for them. She was active in Luther League, teaching Sunday school, choir, and more recently at Messiah Lutheran as financial secretary. As founding member of Club 66, an unmarried singles club, she followed the rules and lost her club membership when she and Fred married in 1975, a year after their first blind date. They enjoyed life immensely, spending time golfing, ballroom and pattern dancing, playing cards, spending time with family and friends. Sincere thanks to Dr. Pat Harris, the wonderful Oncology Team at Grace Hospital, and to all the doctors and nurses on the 3rd floor and their support staff, who helped Helen in every way. Funeral service will be on May 6 at 2:00 p.m. (viewing at 1:30 p.m.) at Messiah Lutheran Church, 400 Rouge Rd. Donations may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church Restoration Fund, or a charity of choice. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
