NORMAN SIDNEY GOLTSMAN 1933 - 2005 On Tuesday, May 3, 2005, the world lost some laughter the sun's shine dulled a cloudy moon shed wet tears for the crushing loss and we who loved him lost our hearts. Norm will be deeply missed by the love of his life, wife of 50 years Shirley Goltsman and the loves of his life - daughters Robbie Goltsman-Ferris (Kevin Ferris), Sharla Chochinov (Barry Chochinov), Marni Goltsman (Peter Gootkind), Tracy Goltsman (Werner Krassnigg) - grandchildren Nolan, Caitlin, Lindsay, Kai, Shafer, Kyra, Aidan - brother Ron Goltsman (Norma) - and numerous friends and relatives. Norm was born in Winnipeg on May 26, 1933 to Samuel and Queenie Goltsman and grew up in the north end. He graduated law school in 1957 and practiced in the city all his adult life. His love of music was apparent through his involvement with Brownstone's choir as a youth, the Chai Folk Ensemble (president and board member) and as a part-time cantor. He was proud of his Jewish roots and was active in the B'nay Abraham Synagogue for many years as president and board member. Norm passed away at St. Boniface Hospital two weeks after being admitted for stomach cancer and just five weeks after becoming ill. His death has left a gaping hole. What will live on are our memories of this loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Not many have a heart so open or a soul so sincere. And not many know the warmth, kindness, acceptance, and unconditional love he gave so freely. As well, our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at St. Boniface Hospital. We were very lucky. He will be sorely missed. Funeral service will be held at Etz Chayim Synagogue, 123 Matheson Ave., on Thursday, May 5 (today) at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Norm's memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Uncle Norman had a kind heart person and I do miss his laugh and his personality. When Uncle Norman and Auntie Shirley and there family came over to my baba and Zaida place for Passover Uncle Norman always lead the Passover Seder and when it came to the four question his granddaughter Lindsay and I would do it together. When it came to my bat mitzvah Uncle Norman wanted to practice my Torah portion in front of the family. I was close to Uncle Norman. I will miss talking with him at family gathering. Love you and miss you dearly. Love your great niece Shera. - Posted by: Shera Chochinov (great niece) on: Feb 16, 2024
