ELLA (EILEEN) ADELINE RAY (GROFF)
Born: Aug 16, 1911
Date of Passing: Apr 23, 2005
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELLA (EILEEN) ADELINE RAY (nee GROFF) August 16, 1911 - April 23, 2005 The family of Ella Ray would like to announce the peaceful passing of their Mum and Granny on April 23 at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg. Ella was the last living child of ten children born to Peter and Caroline (nee Riehl) Groff. She is survived by her six children, Virginia Furutani (Akira), David (Carol), Stephen, Janet Kruckenberg (Marlyn), Susan Gross (George) and Andrea; 33 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren and their extended families. Ella was predeceased by her husband George; her granddaughter Bethany Ball and her great-grandson David Anthony Hubert. Mum was born in Winnipeg and lived all of her life here. On May 2, 1936 she married George Ray, a well known artist and together they raised their family on 29 Lynbrook Drive in Charleswood. Ella was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for 40 years of her life and for many of those years, shared her musical talents and literary skills. She was also a gifted piano teacher. Mum loved flowers and landscaping and spent many hours digging and composting in her garden. Mum was a master of thrift and generosity so it was impossible to leave her home without one of her many beautifully handmade sweaters or afghans, some home made food, something she had recycled, or a new treasure she found ON SALE . Mum was a deeply spiritual woman and was never happier then she was when she was talking about religion. Don't forget to say your prayers was her trademark admonition and goodbye. Her family was everything to her so in accordance with her wishes, a private family service was held on April 28 at the Glen Eden Funeral Home. Death is but a door, unlocked by God. Swinging wide, it carries us, dancing, to the other side. Till we meet again, Ella. We love you. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN EDEN FUNERAL HOME 4477 MAIN ST. 338-7111
