Date of Passing: May 04, 2005
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHAZEL MILDRED (VAL) MACBETH (nee VALLIS) 1914 - 2005 On Wednesday, May 4, 2005 Val passed away at the Grace Hospital with dignity and in the good care of others. Predeceased by Sidney, her husband of 54 years, her brother Ken, brother-in-law Doug Rogers and niece Susan Rogers, she leaves her legacy to her son and daughter-in-law, John and Joanne; grandchildren, Bryan (Jenni) and Ainslie; sister Dorothy; niece and nephew, Bonnie and Paul; many cousins, special friends, the nursing profession and all who knew her. Born in St. John, NB to a loving and devoted family, her life's journey took her through graduation from St. John High School, a nursing diploma from St. John General Hospital, six years of work as a Second World War nursing sister, to the prairies of Manitoba where she led her life (including a long and rewarding career at Deer Lodge Hospital) and shared an amazing marriage for over half a century. She loved her life here and all those who touched it, but the Maritimes always remained home and she forever wondered how she had ended up in some place so flat. People were Mom's life. She was an exceptional wife, mother, mother-in-law, nana, friend and nurse. She learned from her many life experiences and shared her wisdom and love unconditionally. Her warmth and the gift of friendship were given freely, providing strength, comfort and guidance to her family and friends. Mom was quite simply instantly liked and respected by all who knew her. She and dad opened up their home and invited all who entered to get to know them and become friends. She loved to help, talk, tell stories and was a great listener. Mom's faith and passion for caring sustained her throughout her life and helped many others along the way. In a way that few people can, she lived, one day at a time, an old saying: If you want to be happy, be happy. Throughout her life she was vibrant, young at heart, fun-loving, witty and a truly remarkable and independent woman. There was a purpose in everything that she did and in living her life she invited us all to live to a higher standard. A particular thank you to the staff in Observation and 3N at Grace Hospital, you know who you are, for your incredible respect, caring and professionalism and for letting Mom live her last few days in the action and renewing her sense of confidence in the profession she loved so much. I count myself in nothing else so happy, as in a soul remembering my good friends. A service of remembrance will be held on Monday, May 9 at 4:00 p.m. in Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway. A private family interment will take place in St. John's Cathedral Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Deer Lodge Center, 2109 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3J 9Z9. THOMSON FUNERAL HOME 669 Broadway - 783-7211
