DOUGLAS GILLON Suddenly on May 4, 2005 Douglas Gillon, passed away at the age of 85. Doug was survived by his loving children, John Gillon, Donald Gillon (Lucie), Robert Gillon (Lise), Sheila Marr (Robert); his sister Christine Smythe; his grandchildren, Rachael Gillon, Bruce Gillon, Joyce Gillon, Marc Gillon, Matthew Marr and Jeffrey Marr. Doug will also be sadly missed by his six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Doug was predeceased by his wife of 41 years, Joyce in 1986, his brother James Gillon in 2001. Doug was born in Detroit, Michigan, but raised for most of his life in Fort Frances, ON. He met Joyce in Ottawa, ON and were married 1945. Doug became a pilot and fought in Burma during the Second World War with 155 squadron. Doug moved his family to Winnipeg in 1960, and worked for Transport Canada for 30 years until his retirement. In 1981, and because of his great passion for aviation, he came out of retirement to become an airport manager in Thompson, MB, from where he retired in 1986. Doug and his son, John bought a cabin in Vermillion Bay, ON, where he enjoyed his time for many years, but that became too great a distance and returned to living in Winnipeg full-time, where he became a large supporter of Tim Horton Coffee, he could be seen picking up coffee for himself and his son, Don many times a day. Prayers will be said on Sunday, May 8 at 7:00 p.m. in Green Acres Funeral Home, Hwy. No. 1 East at Navin Road. A service of remembrance being held for Doug on Monday, May 9 at 2:00 p.m. in Green Acres Funeral Home, Hwy. No. 1 East at Navin Road with Rev. Fr. Fred Olds officiating. Interment to follow in Green Acres Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Heart Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald St., Suite 200, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.   • I knew Doug when he was a part owner of Superior Airways in Thunder Bay, Ontario. He was flying the schedule flights piloting the DC3 aircraft usually with Bob Ayers.
