I met him at Gordon Bell. He was not just a teacher and coach, he was an incredible human being. To say he went above and beyond would be an understatement. Simple words could never express how much he meant to me. He helped me as a teacher, a coach and he was a father figure to me. He was always there for me and encouraged me. He was not afraid to tell you when you did something wrong either. That smile could light up the world. There is no way to thank him for everything he did for me. One in a million. Rest in peace to this kind and gentle soul. - Posted by: Rebecca Carty (Student, friend and family) on: Dec 06, 2021

The first day of 7th grade 1976 I sat down for the first time in Mr. Gaston's history class. We were a bunch of wide-eyed 12 yr olds. He introduced himself briefly then told us to get paper & a pen and write down as he dictated. He began speaking the poem "Good Timber" by Douglas Malloch. Being young kids who had never taken notes in our lives it took almost the whole class for us to scratch down the words in our notebooks. I have never forgotten that day or the words of that poem. Mr. Gaston, thank you for the truth and integrity you imparted to your students and the life-lessons you gave. - Posted by: Deanna Dupas Black (Student) on: Aug 17, 2021

Mr. Gaston, what can I say but what a wonderful human being. There was so much more I needed to learn from him. What a great teacher. We need more people like him in the world. He really did make the world a better place. He truly cared. - Posted by: pia athayde (student/friend) on: Oct 23, 2018

Mr. Gaston taught and coached me for several years at Gordon Bell so we spent a lot of time together. He was a great teacher, an even better coach and we learned so much from him. He was liked and respected by everyone. Whenever I saw him, he always had time for a chat and to reminisce about the old days. He was still active and still helping people. I will miss him greatly and I will always remember what he taught me. I would like to send my deepest condolences to the Gaston family. May he rest in peace. - Posted by: Alan Lowe (Friend) on: May 11, 2005

It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of Mike. We would like to extend our sympathy and prayers to Mrs Gaston and family. We will be praying for you folks and if there is any comfort at this time it is to know that he knows the Lord. I was saddened to hear the news of Mr. Gaston's passing. I will always remember his strict teachings at Gordon Bell. Although, strict but fair, he was always there for the students and pushed us to our limits so that we could excell in every way possible. My success today is because he cared enough to show me the right path when it seemed that my direction was otherwise. Heaven has gained an angel much too early. But we shall never forget you. It is a sad, sad day to hear of the passing of "Mr. G". Mike was my coach, teacher, friend and I had the honour of babysitting his beautiful daughter. Mike was a great man. He was an incredible athlete, he loved jazz, he was brilliant, complex, compassionate, and funny. He cared about his students and made a point of getting to know them. He pushed us to "go the extra mile" whether it was on the basketball court or in American History class. My deepest condolences to his family. - Posted by: Liz Duerksen (nee Keep) (Friend) on: May 09, 2005

Mr. Gaston was my basketball coach and at Gordon Bell High School. He was adored by the entire team. He taught me many important qualities, the most memorable of which was not to give in to your fears or they can paralyze you. We were playing St. John's High School and had heard the team members were tough. I was afraid, and when it was time for me to go in to play I told Mr. Gaston that I was. He benched me! It taught an important lesson, and I will miss him very much. My deepest sympathies. - Posted by: Gisela Rempel (Acquaintance) on: May 09, 2005
