G. LEONE PENSTON It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Leone Penston on the evening of Sunday, May 8, 2005 - Mother's Day - at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg. Predeceased by her husband Jim in 2001, she will be sadly missed by her two sons, Bob (Jane) of Barrie, ON, and Brian (Jo-Anne) of Winnipeg; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jason Checkley), Jeffrey and Craig; step-grandchildren, Jennifer, Daniel and Jessie Graham; brother Donald Lindsay (Barbara Ann) of Kelowna, BC; and sisters-in-law, Joan McCrea of Winnipeg and Irene Penston of Carman. Leone was born in Hamiota, MB on August 12, 1926 to Lyle and Inez Lindsay. Her early years were spent in the small nearby farming community of Chumah, MB where her father operated the local grain elevator. She grew up in the Hamiota area until 1941, when the family moved to Sexsmith, AB for two years. In her late teens, Leone moved to Winnipeg to complete a business course at about the same time that the rest of her family moved to the small town of Bradwardine, MB. While working in Winnipeg, she met Jim and they were married in June 1947 in the Bradwardine United Church and settled in Winnipeg. An avid curling fan, she was a Past President of the Pembina Ladies Curling Club and for many years could be found in various curling clubs along with Jim - both participating as well as cheering on her favourites. Leone was very skilled at needlepoint work and some of her works qualify as family treasures. She also enjoyed knitting sweaters, mittens, scarves, etc. which her grandchildren cherished. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 14 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. with an interment and reception to follow. The family extends their thanks to the Grace Hospital staff for the care and compassion given to Leone. In lieu of flowers, donations in Leone's memory can be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE 885-9715 Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolence at www.chapellawn.mb.ca
