ELIZABETH MATICIO October 20, 1939 - May 5, 2005 Surrounded by her loving family, Elizabeth showed tremendous strength and courage throughout her struggle with cancer and peacefully passed from this life with dignity. She is survived by two sisters, Anna Riopka of Victoria, BC, Mary Lou Gural (Joe) of Winnipeg; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Tekla Maticio, and an infant sister Eva. Elizabeth graduated from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute and immediately took up employment with the Provincial Government, retiring in 1995 after 37 years of service. She made many life-long friends during that time and very much looked forward to reunions which she helped to plan. Never idle, even in her retirement, she worked parttime in various positions drawing on her vast clerical and administrative skills. She also dedicated more of her time to her arts and crafts, a life-long passion. With a keen eye for detail and an artistic bent she often worked on several projects at a time completing each with exceptional skill. Her family are the proud inheritors of her treasurers, especially the intricately designed pysanky . Liz was deeply devoted to her family and indeed helped nurture her nieces and nephews whom she adored. Her warmth and kindness drew people to her, especially young people and children. She was always a gracious and willing babysitter. She had a special fondness for animals and tenderly cared for several pets over the years. Furred and feathered visitors to her yard were always welcome. Her door was open to all. Our beloved Liz is deeply missed and her precious memory will live in our hearts always. GOOD NIGHT LIZ, GOOD NIGHT Thank you to Dr. James Johnston, Erin and all the wonderful staff at CancerCare Manitoba as well as the palliative care team at St. Boniface General Hospital. Cremation has taken place and as Elizabeth requested a private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in Elizabeth's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, R3E 0V9 (787-4177) would be greatly appreciated. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
