CORNELL WINNICKI It is with profound regret that we announce the passing of our son, brother and uncle Cornell Frank Winnicki. Cornell was born in St. Boniface on July 12, 1950 and was raised in Corall, MB. He worked at the CPR on the lifting and lining gang and on the switch gang to pay for his education. Cornell graduated from the University of Winnipeg in 1975 with a BA in Art History. After considering a career as a teacher, Cornell worked a short time in Winnipeg before joining Gillis Quarries in Garson in 1977 where he served as Supervisor for many years. Cornell was always a busy man. In addition to working at the quarry he took over and operated the family farm raising grain and cattle. He lived on the family homestead alongside the Brokenhead River. Cornell protected thousands of geese that nested along the riverbank each year. He enjoyed his country life with his two border collie companions. Throughout his lifetime he was keenly interested in world events and history continued to be his passion. Cornell always looked forward to hosting the pig roast and horseshoe tournament for his friends and coworkers. Cornell will be greatly missed by his mother Anne and brothers, Phill (Karen) and Eugene (Darlene); nieces, Jillian, Jessica and nephew Steven; as well as goddaughter and niece Erin. He also leaves behind cousins as close as brothers, Lorne and Wesley and beloved cousin Rosemarie and family. He was predeceased by his father Frank in 1990 and a dear cousin Leonard in 2005. Erin, Jill, Jess and Steven remember the many happy days spent at Uncle's farm. He loved to push them on the swing set he built for them. The family wish to thank Dr. Campbell and the staff of the Beausejour Hospital for his care. According to Cornell's wishes there will be no formal service. Friends and family are invited to a reception to celebrate his life in the Brokenhead Room at the Brokenhead River Recreational Complex, James Avenue East, Beausejour, MB, Monday, May 16 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. If friends so desire memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society. RUSSELL'S of Beausejour, Manitoba are in care of arrangements. Call 1-866-424-6271 toll free or 268-2263
