Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCAROLE (GEORGINA) MILES January 6, 1947 - May 9, 2005 With her lifetime partner and friends by her side, Carole Miles passed away peacefully on Monday, May 9, 2005. Carole grew up in North Vancouver and graduated from UBC with Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, a Master of Arts, and a PhD and post-Doctorate in Sociology. She was a Sports Therapist for Canadian athletes at the Montreal Olympics. Carole met her husband, Roger, at Grossman's Tavern, a jazz club in Toronto and they began a life of working, sailing, travelling, singing and laughing together. In 1987, they moved to Winnipeg and Carole began two years at Health Sciences with the Physio. Dept. A Fibromyalgia attack then forced her to resign, but she sprang back the next year to work as an OT at Victoria General for five years. Carole loved sailing. She said it gave her a sense of freedom from her disability and she participated with great effort and drive that characterized her spirit. Roger and Carole made many friends during their travels to New Orleans, New Zealand, Figi, Tenarif and many destinations for sailing events and races. With Van McLean, Carole founded Disabled Sailing Manitoba in 1997. She was also Commodore of the Falcon Lake Yacht Club. Carole was involved with Independent Living Resources, The MS Society and a women's spirituality group. She loved swimming and enjoyed singing with her folk dance friends in MIFDA. She was a regular at Jazz events, the Folk Festival, many shows at the West End and other arts events. Carole loved learning and reading, undertook research into nutrition ad lifestyle factors of Multiple Sclerosis and shared this so others would benefit. In the last few years, she began to study theology in depth, both in correspondence courses and self study and met with colleagues in a women's spirituality group. She regularly attended Mass at St. Timothy's, which had the attractive qualities of wheelchair accessibility and a welcoming parish. Carole was predeceased by her parents Eileen (nee Hurley) and Richard Miles. She leaves to cherish her memory and fighting spirit, her loving husband Roger Redwin; her aunt, Sister Mary Janet; cousin Margaret Hurley; sister-in-laws Wendy and Tina and friends far and wide who were blessed with her beautiful smile and sense of humour. Many thanks to the staff of St. Anne's Hospital and Health Sciences MICU. Memorial service will be at St. Timothy's Parish, 135 John Forsyth Road, St. Vital, Winnipeg, Wednesday, May 18 at 2:00 p.m.
