ALFRED STEPBERGER April 12, 1928 - May 12, 2005 It is with deeply saddened hearts that the family of Alfred Stepberger announce his peaceful passing at the Health Sciences Centre on Thursday, May 12, 2005, following a courageous battle with cancer. He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memories, his daughter Brenda (Paul) Kowalczuk; son Barry Stepberger; grandchildren, Marcy and Paul Jr.; and his great-grandchildren, Hailey and Keyan. As well, Alfred is survived by his sister Isabel Ritchie of Kamsack, SK; and brother Arnold Stepberger of Canora, SK; sisters-in-law, May (Dan) Lukey of Yorkton, SK and Stella Lapitsky of Benito, MB; and many nieces and nephews. Alfred was predeceased by his loving wife Anne; and his parents, Joseph and Frances Stepberger. Alfred was born the second of three children on April 12, 1928 on a farm near Pelly, SK, where he was raised. He met Anne Maximow from the nearby Arran, SK area, whom he married on October 21, 1950. Dad got his Auto-Mechanic Journeyman Certificate in Edmonton, AB in the late 1940s. Shortly after moving to Winnipeg, he started his own business, Al's South End Service and carried on as an entrepreneur until his retirement in 1983. Dad loved the outdoors, spending countless days at the cabin, fishing and play crib . Following his retirement, Mom and Dad spent their summers at the farm near Pelly, SK. Cancer is so limited... It cannot cripple love. It cannot shatter hope. It cannot corrode faith. It cannot eat away peace. It cannot destroy confidence. It cannot kill friendship. It cannot shut out memories. It cannot silence courage. It cannot invade the soul. Prayers will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 16 at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons St. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 17 at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, 252 Dubuc St. Interment will follow at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. The Desjardins Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements, 233-4949 or toll free 1-888-233-4949. Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolence at www.desjardins-funeral.ca.
