J. A. DOUGLAS COOK 1920 - 2005 After a lengthy struggle with a degenerative neurological condition, Doug died on Friday, May 13 at Tuxedo Villa, bringing to an end a well lived life. He is survived by his wife Beth; son Glen (Margaret) of Calgary; son Cameron (Pamela) of Fort Worth, Texas; daughters, Lesley Hilton (Alan) and Lindsay Cook Steuart (Rob) of Winnipeg. There are 10 grandchildren, Ingrid (Kurtis) and Charlie (Melissa) of Calgary; Ainsley at College Station, Texas and Ian, Fort Worth; Riley (Erica) of Wisconsin and Brittany Hilton; Dylan (Bronwyn), Cole, Kelsey and Rory Cook Steuart; two great-grandsons, Kael and Troy of Winnipeg; two brothers, Jack (Beatrice) of Ottawa and Ken (Jean) of Winnipeg; and sister-in-law Leila Cook of Hudson, QC. Doug was predeceased by his parents, John and Jeannie (Cleary) Cook and by brothers, Bill, Hugh and Robbie. A large extended family spreads across the country. After naval service (1941 - 46), Doug attended United College and the University of Manitoba. He taught at Cecil Rhodes and Churchill High. He served in administration at Isaac Newton, Churchill High, J.B. Mitchell and Adult Education. He enjoyed his 30 years in education; he was challenged but never bored! He retired in December 1981 and had 17 years of active retirement travelling around the world and enjoying Fort Rouge Curling Club membership: curling, golfing, playing cribbage and duplicate bridge. His family and loyal friends enriched his life during these last difficult years. At Doug's request, his body has been donated to the Faculty of Medicine, University of Manitoba, for anatomical study. The family wish to thank Dr. Karen Boyd and the staff of Station 2 at Tuxedo Villa for their compassionate care. If friends desire, in lieu of flowers they may contribute to Fort Whyte Centre, 1961 McCreary Rd., R3P 2K9 or to a charity of their choice. A celebration of Doug's life will be held when the family can assemble in Winnipeg.
