WILLIAM (BILL) WAUGH 1919 - 2005 Peacefully at home Bill, beloved husband of Dorothy, passed away May 14, 2005 after battling cancer with dignity and courage. He was 85. He was loved and will be missed by his wife Dorothy, daughters, Frances (Tom) and Susan (Owen); and granddaughters, Heather (John), Kathleen (David), Jessica, Christine (Eric), Shelley; and great-granddaughter Tessa. He was predeceased by his parents, William Waugh and Jessie Jane Perry; his half-brothers, Herbert Bowes and Vernon Bowes, Richard Waugh and half-sister Jennie Waugh Chudleigh as well as daughter Joan and granddaughter Elizabeth Ann. Bill was raised in the house in which he was born in East St. Paul. He went to school in Bird's Hill then worked at the Manitoba Liquor Commission. In 1941 he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, became a pilot and was assigned to the Commonwealth Air Training Plan as a flying instructor. In 1942 he married Dorothy May Jarvis. When he was discharged in 1945 he returned to the family farm. In 1951 he began work at Imperial Oil and stayed there until the plant closed, then continuing working at the Winnipeg Pipeline until his retirement. Bill served his community well. He spent many years on the Vestry of St. Catherine's Church and as Minister's Warden, ten years on school board and 12 on East St. Paul municipal council. He was a member of the East St. Paul Legion and received his 25-year pin with the Masons. After retirement, he and Dorothy spent 24 winters in Arizona and travelled extensively. They moved to North Kildonan in the 1990's. Many thanks to the nurses of the Palliative Care Program and the doctors, nurses and staff at the Victoria Hospital oncology department. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or St. Catherine's Anglican Church. A celebration of Bill's life will be held Wednesday, May 18 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Catherine's Anglican Church, Bird's Hill. Arrangements by Friends of the Family Funeral Home Service, Inc. 339-5555.
