JOHANN SIMPERL 1930 - 2005 Peacefully at home, on May 14, after a courageous battle with cancer, John passed away. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife, Edna and their three children, Martha (Ron) Hardie, John Jr. (Joanne) and Kenneth (Susan); grandchildren, Andrew and Alec Hardie and Christina and Laura Simperl; brother-in-law Walter Moore (Anna); sisters-in-law Anne Dowie (Lou), Bereniece Herbst (Gerald), Georgetta Kirkness (Jim) and Sis Moore; and his nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his parents, Johann and Magdelina Simperl; in-laws, George and Martha Moore; brother-in-law Fred Moore and niece Maureen Dowie Marando. John was born in Baveria, Germany on August 26, 1930, the only child of Hans and Leni Simperl. In May 1950 he immigrated to Canada, landing at Pier 21 in Halifax and coming west to work at San Antonio Gold Mines in Bissett. There he met and married his soul mate, Edna. In 1964 they moved to Selkirk where he worked at Manitoba Rolling Mills until his retirement in 1990. John loved sports and whenever there was soccer, hockey or football you could always find him in front of the T.V. He and Edna travelled to six Briers and one Scott where they made many new friends. John also loved music; Charlotte Church and The Three Tenors were among his favourites. He was also an avid reader. Most of all John loved his family. His children were his pride and joy and he really believed his grandchildren were the best ever born. A celebration of John's life will be held on Friday, May 20 at 2:00 p.m. in the Selkirk United Church, 202 McLean Ave., Selkirk with Rev. Jeri Bjornson officiating. A private family interment of ashes will precede the service at St. Clements Cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. Demsas, Dr. Lindenschmidt, Dr. Unrah and staff on G7 at Health Sciences Centre, the nurses at Selkirk General Hospital and the caring people with Home Care and Palliative Care, Selkirk. In lieu of flowers donations in John's memory may be made to Selkirk Palliative Care, 100 Easton Dr., Selkirk or the Selkirk United Church Memorial Fund, 202 McLean Ave., Selkirk. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
