LAURIE IBBOTT 1916 - 2005 Peacefully, Laurie, aged 89 years, beloved husband of Marjorie, passed away May 16, 2005 at Victoria General Hospital. Left to cherish his memory are his four daughters, Shirley (Bill) Gilchrist, Winnipeg, Nancy (Glenn) Glover, Calgary, Joyce (Wayne) Belvin and Mary (Bill) Stone both of Ajax, ON. Grandpa will also be missed by his grandchildren, Brian, Lorraine, Michele, Danielle, Sarah, Kyle, Stephen, Noelle, Trevor, Quinn, Corbin, Dylan, Jacob; and his great-grandchildren, Spencer, Morgan, Kendra, Tynan and Liam. Laurie also leaves to mourn numerous nieces and nephews. He is survived by his sisters, Marjorie Wright and Eileen Ibbott; sisters-in-law, Jean Ibbott and Aimee Ibbott. Laurie was predeceased by his mother and father, Caroline and Arthur Ibbott; brothers, Arthur, Claude, Charles, Herbert and sister Dorothy. Laurie served his country in the RCAF and held the rank of Sergeant during the Second World War. After the war he worked for The Hartford Fire Insurance Company Ltd. in Winnipeg and Toronto until his retirement in 1981. Laurie was involved in the YMCA in his youth and became President of the Y's Men Club. He was a member of Lord Selkirk Lodge #137 GRM AF and AM serving as Worshipful Master in 1961 and latterly St. John's Lodge #4 by amalgamation. He was an active member and served in both St. Paul's Anglican Church Fort Garry and St. George's Anglican Church, Pickering, ON. He was a volunteer driver for the Canadian Cancer Society for 12 years. Laurie enjoyed square dancing, round dancing, bowling, curling and was an avid golfer. In his retirement Laurie and Marjorie enjoyed travelling. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Anglican Church, 830 North Dr., Fort Garry on Thursday, May 19 at 2:00 p.m. Reception will follow in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102-310 Broadway, R3C 0S6, the Victoria General Hospital Foundation, 2340 Pembina Hwy., R3T 2E8 or to a charity of your choice.
