WILLIAM HORNER 1922 - 2005 Peacefully, after a lengthy battle with cancer, Bill passed away at Lion's Personal Care Centre on May 15, 2005 at the age of 83. Left to mourn Bill's passing is his brother Frank Horner (of Calgary); sister Ann McDowell; nephews, Jim Penziwol (Cheryl), Bill Horner (Suzie), Jim Edward (Wendy); nieces, Kelly Penziwol, Lynn McMurty (Rob) (of Calgary), Tracey Horner (also of Calgary), Michelle Auger (Jay); and several great-nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his wife Jessie; parents, William and Annie; his sister Kathleen Edward and sister-in-law Hilda Horner. Born in 1922 in Scotland, Bill immigrated with his parents to Winnipeg as a young boy. He held a variety of jobs, in which he made many friends. As a young man he met his future wife, Jessie, at a dance and the two became inseparable for many years, until her passing in 1994. They had a long and happy life together, going for drives to the cottage at Winnipeg Beach, sharing ice cream cones and dinners out. Known to be prudent with her spending, Jessie's favourite saying to Bill was Make it do, Willie which became a family joke over the years. Bill always got a chuckle when saying this to others. Bill worked at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce main branch for 30 years until his retirement in May, 1986. He earned the respect of everyone he met, with his kind, gentle ways and his unwavering sense of humour. He was friendly and helpful to everyone. Bill was known to constantly poke fun at himself and always tried to make others feel good. Bill always took a deep interest in the lives of his friends and family. He was very proud of their accomplishments. A celebration of Bill's life will be held on Friday, May 20, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook St. Cremation has taken place, according to Bill's wishes. He will be laid to rest with his beloved Jessie for all time at Elmwood Cemetery. The family wishes to express their extreme gratitude to Kathy, Brenda and the wonderful staff at the Lion's Manor Personal Care Centre on Sherbrook Street for their exceptional care and concern during his stay there this past year. He was very happy there and enjoyed the daily banter with the staff on the different issues of the day. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to a charity of one's choice in Bill's name. Bardal Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. (phone 837-4494)
