ANN LARGE With great sadness at her passing but joy for a life we shared we announce the death of Ann Large. Mum was predeceased by brothers, Donald, Murdo, Malcolm; sister Catherine; brother-in-law Jack Large. Mum is survived by her husband Donald S. Large; brother John (Ena) Macfarlane of Oakville, ON; sisters-in-law, Dawn of Selkirk, MB, Diana Macfarlane; brother-in-law Magnus Eliason; sister-in-law Hilda Large and daughter Vanda Heather (Olayinka) Opanubi; grandsons, Ade (Josephine), Wale (Amanda) in Australia, Kola (Tamara Rondeau) and Tosin; four great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and cousins in Canada and Scotland. Nieces, Carol Macfarlane and Laurie Macfarlane Brazeau had been especially closer to her. Mum was born at Faulkner, MB. The Depression forced the family back to Scotland in 1933. In spite of hard times she became a State Registered nurse and midwife. Ann returned to Canada with Vanda in 1948, working in Montreal before returning to Winnipeg in 1950, where she worked at the old Victoria and Municipal Hospitals. Ann married Don Large in 1966 and relocated to Montreal. The travelled extensively, visiting 47 countries. Mom spent time with us in Nigeria. After Don retired they moved to London in 1978. Ann was an active member of the Unitarian Service Committee in Montreal and London and volunteered at the London Victoria Hospital. In retirement Mum took up watercolours. She showed her painting at Ontario country fairs, winning two prizes at the Thorndale Fair in 1995. She continued to paint after entering Tuxedo Villa. In 2002 Ann and Don returned to Winnipeg, settling at the Wellington until ill health forced her to enter Tuxedo Villa. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 20, at St. Clement Mapleton, 1178 River Rd., Selkirk, MB at 11:00 a.m. Donations may be sent to the Parkinson Society of Manitoba, 302 - 171 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 1M4, or a charity of one's choice.
