Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHAROLD R. HOPPER It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of their beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Harold R. Hopper, in Calgary, AB (formerly of Winnipeg, MB) on May 17, 2005. Harold was born in Moncton, NB, on January 03, 1916, and he was always proud to be referred to as a Maritimer . He is survived by his precious wife, Freda (nee Watson) of 62 years; his daughters, Jean (Bob) Johnson of Mississauga, ON, Barbara Joyce (Ken) Barrie, Judy A. Hopper all of Calgary, AB and Kathleen (Paul) Tingskou of Winnipeg, MB. He is also survived by his 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren - all of who were the joys of his life. Harold was proud to have served in the Royal Canadian Air Force for five years during the Second World War. It was in Ottawa, 1943, where he met his true love, Freda. They then began their life together and settled in Winnipeg, MB. Harold retired from Manitoba Hydro in January 1981, after 28 years of fulfilling work on all major Hydraulic Projects during that time. Harold obtained his Masters Degree in Engineering in 1970 and in 1972 was awarded the Keefer Medal by the Engineering Institute of Canada. In 1984 he was also honoured by being elected a Fellow of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering. Harold's long-time interest in filmmaking left Hydro with many documented hydraulic projects undertaken by the utility in that time. His interest in filming was encouraged by the Winnipeg Cinema Club of which he was a member for over 50 years. This interest left his family with a loving story of their heritage. Harold never considered his departure from Manitoba Hydro as the end of his career but as the beginning of an era of new responsibilities and change. By October 1981, Freda and Harold were on their way to Lahore, Pakistan where they spent two of the happiest years on a hydraulic project with Montreal Engineering Company. In the years since his retirement, Harold and Freda have many memories of travel to many corners of the world which also includes our family's special haven at Gull Lake, MB. Harold was a loving and gentle man. He will always be remembered for his sterling example of unconditional love. He left us with the gifts of his quiet strength and profound words of wisdom . A Celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday May 20, 2005 Charleswood United Church 4820 Roblin Blvd. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to: The Heart Stroke Foundation of Canada; 222 Queen St., Suite 1402; Ottawa, ON, K1P 5V9.
