LORNA MARIE SMITH (nee WOOD) Lorna Marie Smith passed away peacefully in Calgary, on Sunday, May 15, 2005 at the age of 76 following a lengthy battle with cancer and heart disease. Her loving husband and family were at her side. The eldest of two children, Lorna was born on January 26, 1929 and raised in Winnipeg. She attended Greenway Elementary School, General Wolfe Junior High and Daniel MacIntyre Collegiate Institute. Following her education she was employed at the T. Eaton Company in the plumbing department. Lorna and her husband Gerald purchased their first home in Charleswood, where Lorna then worked in the local municipal office. It was shortly afterwards that they decided to start their family. Over the years, as a result her husband's railroad career, they found themselves living in Chicago, Toronto, Montreal and Saskatoon before eventually returning to Winnipeg in 1970. Upon retirement, Lorna and her husband relocated to Calgary to be closer to two of their three children and their two granddaughters. Left to mourn are: her loving husband of 56 years, Gerald; her three children, Carol Ann (Dwight Harley) and their daughter Kathleen, Kevin James and his daughter Christine all of Calgary and her son Gary Robert of Winnipeg. Lorna was predeceased by her father, Robert (Bob) Wood, her mother, Marie Wood (nee Atkinson), her brother Roy Wood of Vancouver and her first born son, Jeffrey Ross Smith. Respecting Lorna's wishes, no service will be held. Cremation has taken place. Interment will follow in Winnipeg at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens - Garden of Eternal Life. Flowers are respectfully declined. Friends who so desire, may make a donation in Lorna's name directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation (1825 Park Rd.
