SAMUEL H. UNRODE It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sam Unrode on Sunday, May 1, 2005 at the St. Boniface Hospital. Sam was predeceased by his beloved wife Fannie in December 1992 and his youngest daughter Mindy in March 1986. He leaves to mourn his loving daughter Diane Unrode Ackley; son-in-law Jim Ackley and cherished granddaughters, Rachel Hart Ackley and Lauren Renee Haber, all living in New York City at 201 E 77th St. Apt. 14B, New York, NY, 10021. He will be lovingly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Sam was born in Poland and arrived in Canada in 1935, under the sponsorship of his two uncles Aaron and Harry Mittleman. His parents and siblings perished during the war, and this loss was always a source of great sadness to him. His business career gave him a great deal of satisfaction, especially the later years in the retail sector, including the establishment of Ideal Men's Wear on Main Street, which he built with pride. He will be remembered for his love of Judaism and his commitment to the Rosh Pina (Etz Chayim) synagogue. The funeral was held at the Congregation Etz Chayim with the interment at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery on Tuesday, May 3. Pallbearers were Harold Richman, Martin Reinhorn, Ken Tennenhouse, Mickey Rosenberg, Bill Silverberg and Edward Winters. Honorary pallbearers were Jay Seeger, Michael Kanovsky, Ken Roseman, Gerald Rosenby and Marvin Rothstein. The family is grateful for the exceptional care given to him over the years by Sarah Pfeutzenreuter and Eleanor Irving-Koop. We are appreciative of the exceptional care given by the staff of the St. Boniface Hospital 5E and many caring doctors and nurses during his illness. Donations may be made in his memory to the Samuel H. Unrode Memorial Fund at Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, C400 - 123 Doncaster St., Winnipeg, MB R3N 2B3 in support of Holocaust Education.
