LYDIA (LENA) SCHRAFT It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother, Lydia Schraft, on Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at the West Park Manor Personal Care Home. She was predeceased by her husband Ted in 1985; brothers, Alec and Joe; sisters, Elsie, Katherine, Victoria and Corraine. Lydia will lovingly be remembered by her daughters, Carol (Dean) Sargeant, Diane (Axel) Truderung; grandsons, Ken (Jennifer), Kevin (Denise); great-granddaughter Alyssa; grandson Karl (Naomi); great-grandchildren, Abigail, Victoria and Nathan; granddaughters, Amanda Truderung and Suzanne (Joseph) Pothe; brother Clarence Schaefer; sister Lorraine (Arnie) Hulmes. Mom was born on December 4, 1911. She was a wonderful mother and homemaker. She loved to cook and to bake especially for her family and friends. She welcomed all who came to her door and always ensured that no one ever left her house hungry. Mom's chocolate chip cookies and raspberry jam were special. She was a talented seamstress and an avid gardener. She was a good friend to all who knew her. Mom had been a member of First English Lutheran Church for many years, participating in the Mary Martha Circle, Bake Sales and Teas. The family thanks the staff at West Park Manor which was her home for the past eight years. Mother's last years were made happier by the support of her companions, Mary Klassen and the late Rita Ross. In tears we saw you sinking, We watched you fade away, You suffered much in silence, You fought so hard to stay. You faced your task with courage, Your spirit did not bend, But still you kept on fighting Until the very end. God saw you getting tired, When a cure was not to be, So He put His arms around you, And whispered, Come to Me . So when we saw you sleeping So peaceful, free from pain, We could not wish you back, To suffer that again. You didn't deserve what you went through, So He took you home to rest. God's garden must be beautiful, For He only takes the best. Funeral service 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 25 at Bardal Funeral Chapel, 843 Sherbrook St. Interment Brookside Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Lydia Schraft.
