WALLACE (WALLY) MCCHEYNE Wally McCheyne passed away suddenly on May 13, 2005, at the age of 53. He is survived by his loving wife Linda and his three adoring children, Michael, Devyn and Reegan. Wally was predeceased by his father Francis and his mother Erna. Wally was born on August 4, 1951, and at an early age his hockey ability was evident. He played for the Winnipeg Junior Jets before being drafted to Minnesota. Upon leaving hockey, Wally worked as a liquor inspector, joining the Winnipeg Police Dept. in 1975. During his 30 year career with the police, he made many lifelong friends who admired and respected him. As a constable, Wally spent time in Districts 1, 2, 4 and 6, as well as in Detectives, Vice, Homicide and Robbery, and a JFO project with the RCMP. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was known as a cop's cop, one who supported and stood behind those on his shift and who in return, earned their respect and admiration. Wally married the love of his life, Linda, in 1984. Their 21 year marriage was filled with life and love. Wally's pride and joy were his three beautiful children. He was a wonderful father whose pride for Michael, Devyn and Reegan shone through. He instilled many values in them and their respect and love for their dad was evident in their many interactions with him, and in their participation at his funeral. He encouraged them in their activities and was so very proud of their academic achievements. Although he worked shiftwork, he attended as many of their activities as he could. Wally was a kind, gentle husband and father, and his death has left a giant void in our family. Funeral services were held Monday, May 16. Pallbearers were Dave Brown, Bob Rye, Ron Bell, Stephen Freed, Jonathon Freed, Jacob Freed, Brent Trepel, David Deutcher, Len Robinson and Rick Lobban. Sincere thanks to the Winnipeg Police Service, District 6 Honor Guard, Police Piper Doug Roxborough, Sergeant Paul Isaak, Sergeant Ron Bell, Sergeant Ken Forsyth, Dave Brown and Rabbi Pinsker. We appreciate all that you did to make a very difficult situation bearable. We miss Wally so much. A trust fund has been established for Michael, Devyn and Reegan at the Winnipeg Police Credit Union, 300 William Avenue, Winnipeg.
