FREDERICK GEORGE GRAVES September 21, 1913 - May 18, 2005 Peacefully on Wednesday, May 18, 2005 Frederick George Graves of McCreary, passed away at the Ste. Rose General Hospital at the age of 91 years. Fred is survived by his wife of 68 years, Bertha; daughter June Kopys of Fisher Branch, Manitoba; son Garry (Leona) Graves of Ste. Rose, Manitoba; daughter Joyce (Len) Goertzen of Benito, Manitoba; grandchildren Darlene (Darcy) Kopys-LaRocque of Stonewall, Manitoba, Tamara (Stephen) of Brandon, Manitoba, Conrad Graves of Ste. Rose, Manitoba and Denis Graves of Ste. Rose, Manitoba; great-grandsons Shayne and Dylan Kopys-LaRocque of Stonewall, Manitoba; brothers Bert (Lil) Graves of Ottawa, Ontario, Aubrey (Florence) Graves of Ottawa, Ontario; sisters Maude Copeland of McCreary, Manitoba, Mabel (Raymond) Mortensen of McCreary, Manitoba; and numerous nieces and nephews. Fred was predeceased by his parents John and Gladys Graves; sister Violet Perkins; son-in-law Walter Kopys; and granddaughters Rochelle and Jenna Graves. Fred was a licensed mechanic, steam engineer, business man and garage owner for many years. He was very active in the Masonic Order from 1941 until his passing. Fred was a Life Member of the Vermillion Lodge #68 in Dauphin, Manitoba and served as P.D.D. Grand Master of Masonic Order from 1971 to 1972. His other love was working with and operating old steam engines and stationary engines and he was a charter member of the Turtle Mountain Fly Wheel Club in Killarney, Manitoba. As a community man, Fred was very involved with the Fire Department and was Fire Chief from 1964 to 1974. Fred was also a Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 173 in McCreary, Manitoba. A past President and volunteer in legion activities. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the Knox United Church in McCreary with Kathy Platt and Reverend Doctor Louise Graves officiating. Interment to follow at the McCreary Municipal Cemetery. The community and family will miss his helping hands, advice and assistance in repairing mechanical problems. He loved to take pictures, tell stories and tales of experiences in his life. He'll be sadly missed by many friends and family.
