NICOLAI J. DICK Nicolai J. Dick was born November l0, 1908 to Jacob and Agnes Dick on the family estate in southern Russia. The outbreak of the Russian Revolution in 1917 and the increasing chaos and lawlessness forced his family to abandon their home and immigrate to Canada, where they settled in Manitoba. Nick married Anna Shroeder in l933. They purchased a farm at Elm Creek, MB. Nick loved grain farming, but life on a prairie farm was a challenge, fraught with long hours of hard work. But Nick and Anna rose to the challenge. In l963 they took up residence in Winnipeg, but Nick continued to work the farm a few seasons. He took on employment in the city for awhile as well. In 1973 he took a well-earned retirement. Nick came to faith in Jesus Christ at age 14 and served his Lord faithfully until his death on May 27, 2005. He leaves to mourn Anna, his beloved wife of 71 and a half years, five children, Eleonore (Henry) Esau, Winnipeg, Henry (Margret) Dick, Edmonton, Anne (Jake) Neufeld, Winnipeg, Alf (Jennifer) Dick, Winnipeg, Rita Macleod, Anola, MB, 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Many thanks to the staff at Oakview Care Home, the doctors and nursing staff at the Grace Hospital, and a special thank-you to Dr. Lloyd C. Bartlett, who faithfully and with concern attended to Nick's medical needs for 42 years. A celebration of Nick's life will take place on Wednesday, June 1, at 10:30 a.m. at the Portage Avenue Mennonite Brethren Church on the corner of Portage Ave. Raglan Road, with Pastor Claude Pratte officiating. Viewing at the church on Tuesday, May 3l, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. If friends desire, donations can be made in his memory to Family Life Network, or a charity of their choice. Arrangements by Friends Family Service. Phone 339-5555.
