CATHERINE STEWART MURRAY
Born: Sep 14, 1923
Date of Passing: May 20, 2005
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCATHERINE STEWART MURRAY (nee McNEILL) Catherine, but known to most as Kitty, Kate, Katie or Kay, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 20, 2005, at the Misericordia Health Centre. Remaining to cherish her memory are her daughter Robin (Peter); grandson Jordan; great-grandson Adrian; great-granddaughter Averie; sister Jean Jamieson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Catherine was predeceased by her father George; mother Keith; husband Dick; her sister Janet (Campbell); and brothers, Duncan, Don and Alex. Mom, the youngest of six children was born September 14, 1923, in Teulon, MB. At the time, her family lived on a small farm in the district of Gunton. When she was a young girl the family moved to the city and lived in Elmwood. Most of Mom's working life was spent with the T. Eaton Co. in various departments, the last one being the China Dept. It was at the beginning of her career here that she met my Father, Dick who at the time worked in the dispensary and later in the Camera Dept. After leaving Eatons, she then went to work for R. W. Packaging and eventually retired from there. Grandma always enjoyed the outdoors and spent many happy years camping, travelling and going to the cottage. For the last few years, she was very fortunate to spend a few weeks every March with her relatives in California. One of the highlights through all of her travels, was a trip to Scotland and England and she had always wanted to return. Mom was extremely active and could be seen walking or biking long distances from her home. Exercise was an important part of her life. She was involved in aerobics classes over the years and aquasize at the downtown Y. Mom was a clogger but eventually gave it up after a successful knee replacement. Not one to ever sit still for long; she joined line, square and round dancing and also lawn bowling. Grandma was also an accomplished cook and baker as anyone who was on the receiving end knows. She never went anywhere without contributing some dish she had made or a tin of cookies. Mom was a devoted and loving Grandma to her Grandson and Great-Grandchildren. She always made time for the family no matter what the situation. Friends and relatives were also very important and special to her. In keeping with Mom's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. Our family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all the nurses and support staff at the St. Boniface Hospital 4E and the Misericordia 5C. Also, our thanks to all the family and friends who took the time to send cards and letters, telephone, e-mail, visit and in general for all your support to her and to us during her hospital stay. To those she loved and to those who loved her, your friendship meant more to Mom than you'll ever know. As an expression of your sympathy, in lieu of flowers, Mom requested that a donation in her memory be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald St., Suite 200, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6 or to a charity of one's choice.
