ELSIE MENDRES (nee ODOWICHUK) It is with deep sadness the family announces the passing of our dear Mother and Grandmother (Baba) Elsie Mendres on May 23, 2005 at Riverview Health Centre at the age of 78 years. She is survived by her daughter Denise; son Ron (Pat); grandchildren, Tasha and Troy; sisters, Kay and Mary and brother Gord (Verna) and their families. Elsie was predeceased by her husband Adam; parents, John and Dora; and brothers, Ed, Bill and George. Elsie was born in Sheho, SK on December 4, 1926. In the early 40s she moved to Winnipeg to further her education. She married Adam in 1946. She later took employment at Wilson Auto Electric, where she remained for 27 years, achieving a position of Corporate Secretary. She loved to travel, being a wonderful cook, she also enjoyed having family over for a Good Ukrainian Dinner'. After retiring in 1987, she volunteered at the Cancer Clinic, the Police Community Services and other organizations. Elsie was a wonderful wife and mother. Her grandchildren were the pride and joy of her life. Funeral service will be held on Monday, May 30 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. with Very Rev. John Melnyk officiating. Interment will follow in Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Elsie's memory to CancerCare Manitoba or to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
