LAURA KOWALCHUK (nee NICHIPORUK) Peacefully, on Wednesday, May 25, 2005 at the Donwood Manor in Winnipeg, Laura Kowalchuk, aged 89 years, a longtime resident of Minitonas, MB. She was predeceased by her husband Metro; parents, Lawrence and Pryska Nichiporuk; sisters, Anastasia, Bella and Annie; brothers, Andrew, Edward, Phillip, Carl, and Nicholas; sisters-in-law, Lily, Fanny and Stepanina; brothers-in-law, Victor, Metro, Petro and Bill. She is survived by her children, Nina and John (Alla); granddaughter Kimberly; and many nieces and nephews. Laura was born in the village of Diatkowichy, near Rovno, Ukraine and came to Canada as a young girl in 1929, initially settling in the Foam Lake, SK area. The stay in Foam Lake was brief with a move taking place to the Grahamville district near Minitonas in 1941. She loved to travel and while her opportunities to do this were limited, she had many fond memories of her trips to British Columbia, Ontario, Washington, DC and California visiting family and relatives. She also travelled to Spain, Portugal and Morocco accompanied by her nephew Lawrence. She had a passion for growing and preserving food for the many, many guests who were always welcomed to her home and for designing and producing needlework for her family and friends. Our mother was a very caring and giving person saving her best love for her children and grandchildren. We always knew that we were loved and to the end that love was, and forever will be reciprocal. We are going to miss you mom. VICHNAYA PAM'YAT Prayers will be said on Friday, June 3 at 7:00 p.m. in Paull's Funeral Chapel in Swan River. Funeral service will take place in the St. Laurentius Church near Minitonas at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 4 with interment to follow in the churchyard cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Lawrence Nichiporuk, Jack Lapsiuk, Lawrence Maslechko, Kimberly Kowalchuk, Larissa Maslechko and Glen Nichiporuk. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Donwood Manor whose compassion and unconditional love for Mom was sincerely appreciated. Thank You! In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the St. Laurentis Greek Orthodox Church. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk and Paull's Funeral Home, Swan River in care of arrangements.
