FLORENCE HOPE FIGGURES (nee ROWLEY) Peacefully, on Saturday, May 28, 2005 at Concordia Hospital, Florence Figgures, widow of the late Herbert (1996), passed away at the age of 93 years. Left to mourn her passing are her children, son Fred of Vancouver, daughter Sally Metcalfe and husband Brian of Winnipeg, son John Figgures and wife Linda of Edmonton; her sister Anne Keatch and husband Gordon; her five grandchildren, Jonathan (Lindsay Stovel), Christopher, Justin, Alyssa and Michael; her nephews, Ron (Janice) and Don (Sheila) Keatch and their children; and finally her numerous caring friends and bridge playing companions. Mom was born in Winnipeg, MB and went to school in the Elmwood area. After graduating from St. John's High School, she received her teaching certificate. Her first teaching assignment was in a one room schoolhouse in Clear Lake where she met her husband-to-be Herbert. Mom and Dad were married in 1941 and started their lifelong journey of adventure together in the Arctic with the Hudson Bay Company. They returned to Pine Falls, MB in 1958 and moved to East Kildonan in 1960 where they became active members in all their children's activities, church, community club and Rossmere Golf and Country Club. After Mom's northern teaching experiences, she also taught in Winnipeg at Argyle, McLeod and Neil Campbell schools. Mom was very active on numerous school committees, as well as, curricular initiatives. After her retirement, Mom devoted her energies and time to Rossmere Golf and Country Club where she golfed and curled. Mom was a founding member of the Rossmere 60+ Club where she initiated and instructed a craft group that met every Monday afternoon. The family wishes to thank Dr. Dennis Caners and the fabulous, caring staff at Concordia Hospital. Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, June 4 at Klassen Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Edna Perry officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Concordia Hospital Foundation, 1095 Concordia Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2K 3S8 or to Osteoporosis Society of Canada, Manitoba Chapter, 4-353 Provencher, Winnipeg, MB R2H 0G8.
