Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDITH FRANCES MCDONALD (MACEY) In her 87th year, Edith Frances McDonald passed away at Grace General Hospital on Sunday, May 29, 2005. She was predeceased by her husband Duncan in 1993; brother Peter in 1986; sister Joyce Horie and mother Elizabeth in 1973, and her father Joe in 1946. Mom is survived by her daughter Margaret; son Tom; granddaughter Careen Henderson (Mitch) and great-granddaughters, Cassidy and Brooke. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Viola Macey of Rosetown, SK, Catherine (Tillie) MacDonald (George) of Winnipeg, Mary McDonald of Erickson, MB, Norma McDonald of Winnipeg, Bette McDonald of Calgary, and several nieces and nephews. She was born January 20, 1919 in Rosetown, SK, the youngest of three children. She attended a one-room school, Rhonda School, for Grades One to Ten. Her father hired a tutor to teach her and her sister Joyce Grades 11 and 12. She then attended the University of Saskatchewan, graduating with a Bachelor of Household Science in 1940. Mom moved to Toronto where she was employed as a dietitian at Toronto Western Hospital and later in Barrie. In 1943, she enlisted in the Air Force as a lieutenant for the duration of the war. After the war, she found employment as a dietitian at the Manitoba Sanatorium in Ninette, where she met our father. They were married in June 1947 and she worked part-time in the Post Office while raising her family. She then became the Assistant and finally the Post Master, retiring in 1984 after 34 years with the Post Office. She was a life member of both the Royal Canadian Legion and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the O.A.S. for 65 years. She was also a member of the U.C.W. and served terms as President and Secretary-Treasurer. She taught cooking with the 4-H club in Ninette and was also the Cub-master of Boy Scouts. Mom loved to travel and visited many different countries over the years. She has left us with many scrapbooks with extensive notes and pictures of her adventures. While in Ninette, she spent countless hours in her garden and was always buying new flowers and waiting anxiously for blooms to appear. During the winter she played bridge, which she took very seriously and studied in order to excel. Mom also enjoyed her walks, especially along the beach, appreciating the beauty and watching for the swans, geese, and pelicans. After retirement, mom and dad spent their winters in Winnipeg and their summers in Ninette. Mom lived independently up until the last six months when she had to move to a personal care home. We will remember her energy, perseverance, hard work and generosity. We would like to extend our thanks to the staff at the Tuxedo Villa for the care they provided to her. It was much appreciated. If anyone so wishes, donations may be made in her memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of their choice. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at the St. Michael and All Saints Anglican Church in Ninette, on Saturday, June 4 at 2:00 p.m. Jamieson's Funeral Service, Glenboro, MB in charge of arrangements, 204-827-2480.
