SAMUAL J. MAENDEL March 27, 1922 - May 31, 2005 It is with profound sadness that our family announces the peaceful passing of our Dad, Samuel J. Maendel. The family takes great comfort in the knowledge that Dad has fulfilled his heartfelt desire and went to be with Jesus. Dad was predeceased by his parents, son Sammy, great-granddaughters Dannielle and Angela, grandson Glen, sisters Susie, Anna, and Katie; brothers Fred, Mike, Paul, Joseph, Jake, Dave. He is survived by his loving wife Rachel, his children (Margret), Elie (Susie), Lorenz (Clara), Myra (Simon), Barbara (Willie), Judy (Sam), Steven (Sarah), John (Tina), Helen (George), Kathryn (Paul), Timothy (Barbara), Joseph (Thelma) and Sara-Ann, 40 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, sister Mary and brothers, John, Peter, and Edward and Darius. Dad was born the 10th of 16 children to Joseph and Katrina Maendel at Rosedale Colony near St Eustache, MB. After losing his mom at the young age of 10 and his dad at 15 he was first taken care of by his stepmother Rachel, sisters Anna and Katie, and then in the later years was taken in by his brother John (Anna). Dad was baptized on June 6, 1943, as God has been a solid and strong strength throughout his entire life baptism was a commitment he made with his entire heart. In 1944 he along with his brothers and sisters he moved to New Rosedale Colony near Portage La Prairie. On September 29, 1946, our Dad married his childhood friend our Mom Rachel Waldner, with whom he shared 58 years. After only 5 months of marriage he was voted Dairy Manager at the Colony. For 26 Years he had a 600 head herd of cattle first Holstein and then Charolais. He had both a dairy heard and also a Beef Operation. Besides taking care of the cattle with his sons and nephews, Dad mended fences, was a Farmhand Dealer, he had 150 stacks of bees and he loved to make honey (where he received his nick name HONEY SAM ). In 1972 Dad moved our family to Pine Creek Colony near Austin MB. Where he was president for four years and served as an elder for 32 years. Dad gave the family pastor care for 22 years (leading us in singing, Bible reading and prayers). Dad loved to travel and visit family and friends, he so loved his summers planting his SUPER SWEET corn, setting up his sprinklers with all his grandchildren and then his weekly Regina trips. Dad made his nightly rounds around the Colony to check the barns and animals, he was always involved in all the Colony projects and his sons and grandsons will miss his help terribly. Dad will always be remembered by his strong religious beliefs, his values, strong love for family and friends, and most of all for his kind nature of giving what little he had to those who were in need. Dad left us many precious memories, he will forever be known for all the many speeches he gave, and the songs he loved to sing (no one will forget Sam). Dad spent his last few days with great comfort that he was ready to be with Jesus. His pain here on this earth is now over and his eternal life with Jesus has begun. Our Family would like acknowledging the wonderful patient and professional care provided by the staff and nurses of medical and surgical wards at Portage Hospital, to Dr Ross for the support and understanding towards our family. A special thank you to our uncle Peter for his daily visits to the hospital (dad so much loved your visits) A wake will be held on Wednesday, June 1, from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. at Pine Creek Colony. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 2nd at 2:00 p.m. at Pine Creek Colony, Interment to be at the Colony Cemetery. Dad Thank you for teaching us to live our lives for Jesus..... You will be always in our Hearts Schlaf in himmlischer Ruh, liebe Faitr!
