Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLAVERNE (VERNE) NORMAN DOWNEY April 12, 1946 - May 31, 2005 It is with deep sadness the family announces the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and son. Verne leaves to forever cherish his memory his beloved wife and best friend of 36 years Deanne. His cherished two daughters, Kimberly De Thomasis (Eric), Lisa (Mike Sirack) and one adored grandchild, Breanne. He is also survived to mourn his passing his mother Vivian Downey; three brothers, Brian (Pat), Del (Brenda), Mel (Arlene) all of Winnipeg; sister Valdene Stuchfield (Terry) of Sydney, Australia; and many nieces and nephews; brother-in-law Peter (Louise) Whillans. Verne was predeceased by his father Norman Alexander Downey in 1996. His greatest pride was the many friends he made along his journey in life, as well as the loyalty he had in his job and providing for his family. Verne was employed by RW Packaging for 31 years prior to his retirement due to illness in November 2002. Verne's family would like to thank all our family and friends for their love and support. Many thanks for the care and respect for Verne and his family during his stay on H3 and D4 wards at Health Sciences Centre. Kim, Liz, Dr. Lipshitz, Dr. Makysymik, Melanie and Val with the Homecare support. A memorial service of remembrance for Verne to be held on Monday, June 6 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Chapel with internment to follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. We will love you always and forever. I am so sorry for your loss. I very much enjoyed Vern's company anytime we were together and it was very obvious how much he loved his family.
