JOHN H. PETERS Courageously, after a lengthy battle with cancer, John passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2005, at the Riverview Health Centre, six days short of his 70th birthday, with his loved ones at his side. He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend Edna (of 48 years); his three sons and their wives, Wes (Cat), Darrell (Cynthia) and Craig (Janet); and grandchildren, Lauren, Cale, John Riley, Grant, Alicia and Shannon, all of whom lovingly called him Poppa . He also leaves behind many other family members, including four brothers and six sisters. John was predeceased by one brother Peter. John grew up in Rhineland, MB, married his sweetheart Edna and moved to Winnipeg in 1956. They lived in Charleswood for the last 35 years. A loving husband and devoted family man, John always enjoyed his work and travel. He worshipped faithfully for over 40 years at Gospel Mennonite Church, where he enjoyed regular fellowship with members of his life group. For those who wish, public visitation and prayers will be held on Friday evening, June 3 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Gospel Mennonite Church, 232 Nassau St. N., and prior to John's funeral service. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 4 at 2:00 p.m., also in the Church with Pastor Al Letkeman officiating. Interment will follow in the Mennonite Memorial Gardens. Edna would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Riverview Health Centre for the loving care provided to John over the last five weeks.
