JOSEPH ABAS 1913 - 2005 Born to Ali and Jemillia Abas on January 7, 1913, in Crookston, Minnesota then making Manitoba their home since 1914 (Marble Ridge-Hodgson-Stony Mountain), suddenly passed on June 1, 2005, at home in Stony Mountain while in the care of his loving wife Hajar (Hilda) of 55 years. Joseph was clearly ahead of his time at all levels, contributing to improving the quality of life for his community beginning in the homestead era to modern life as we know it today. He was a genuine cross-culturalist which was so evident in his deep respect for all peoples - First Nation, Metis, Ukrainian, Polish, French, Jewish, Icelandic, Irish, Italian, German, to mention a few - and profoundly embodied the true essence of his Arab Ancestry. Joseph will be forever cherished by his children, and in-laws, Ann Haney, Clarence Haney, Ferial (Dave Nixon), Keith (Camie), Nancy Abbas, Earl (Sherry), Karen Abas, Boyd (Ghalia), Murray (Achwaq), Murvin (Hiam), David (Houda), Karen (Wayne Sinclair), Dianne (Bill Ammeter), Dale (Mona). His grandchildren Adam, Merranda, Ryan, Neil, Chris, Tyler, Travis, Tamara, Amanda, Tyrone, Belal, Layal, Mohammed, Siba, Yusuf, Shjenna, Zoey, Joey, Nadia, Najla, Hajar, Mona, Jamal, Mohammad, Malak, Rema, Abraham, Tiana, Alyssa, Brent, Hannah, Erica, Mona Lisa, Sammy, Sumiya, Sarah, Macy and Gracie will remember Joudi as a finest example of humanity, and, his sisters Lillian Norton, Annie Hagar, Dora (Zeno) Scaletta, Irene Gulay and brothers Ernest (Anne) and Omar (Rush'dia) will surely miss their eldest sibling who never wavered in his absolute respect for and active duty to family, also, his nieces and nephews Muriel, Kathy, Kenneth, Glenn, Lloyd, Cheryl, Alberta, Omar, Mary-Ann, Alec, Lillian, Fatima, Raymond, Renee, Albert, Audrey, Marvin, Ronnie, Ivan, Austin, Lillian, Alec, Nellie, Gary and Jennie who knew Uncle Joe as a strong willed principled head of the entire family that includes the many relatives of the Tasse Families for whom he laid the foundation for their emigration to Canada from Lebanon. Notably, Joseph was predeceased by his father (1957), mother (1985), father/mother-in-law Ali and Wahiabe Tasse, sister Freda and brothers-in-law Albert Austin, Abe Hagar, Clinton Norton and Andrew Gulay. Funeral services will be held today, Friday, June 3, at 1:45 p.m. at the Islamic Centre Manitoba - Mosque, 247 Hazelwood Ave., St. Vital, with interment, as per the wishes of Joseph, in Hodgson Cemetery, Hodgson, MB starting at 5:30 p.m. and concluding with dinner at the North Interlake Metis Hall in Hodgson at 6:30 p.m. PALLBEARERS Keith Abas, Earl Abas, Boyd Abas, Murray Abas, Murvin Abas, David Abas HONORARY PALLBEARER Dale Abas
