JOSEPH CLEMENT BRACKE June 12, 1919 - May 31, 2005 Peacefully, after a lengthy illness of Parkinson's and cancer, we announce the passing of our dear Papa, Joseph, on Tuesday, May 31, 2005, at the St. Boniface General Hospital at the age of 85 years. Joseph will be lovingly remembered by his wife Rachel of 63 years of marriage; son Daniel (Elizabeth MacDonald); granddaughters, Michelle Bracke and Nadine Bracke Nand; great-grandchildren, Zachary and Brittany Bracke Nand; nephews, Leon De Vreese (Yvette) and Jean Pierre De Vreese (Claudine) and their respective families; and niece Carol Murphy (Rick) and family. He was predeceased by his father Pierre; mother Jeanette; brother Alphonse and a baby brother who died in infancy; and sister Jeanne. Born in Ghent, Belgium, Joseph served his country during the Second World War and spent four years in a German Prison Camp. Upon returning home, he was hospitalized with Meningitis and endured painful medical treatments. This illness left Joseph with long lasting side effects. In 1954, Joseph came to Canada with his wife and son. He worked as a building supervisor for the Canadian Wheat Board until his early retirement in 1983. Joseph enjoyed playing cards, Belgian Bowling and spent much time at the Belgian Club until his senior years, when Joseph's struggles with Parkinson's prevented his participation. Despite his difficulties however, Joseph continued to dedicate his love and time visiting and caring for his special needs granddaughter Michelle to the very end. A Celebration of Joseph's Life will be held on Wednesday, June 8 at 1:30 p.m. in St. Mary's Anglican Church, 3830 Roblin Blvd. with Rev. Gordon Dixon officiating. Our family extends many thanks to the staff at the St. Boniface General Hospital for their excellent care of Papa during his final weeks. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in Joseph's memory may be made to the St. Amant Centre, 440 River Rd., Winnipeg, MB R2M 3Z9.
