JACOB G. WIEBE Peacefully on Friday, June 3, 2005 with his family by his side, Jake passed away at the Boyne Lodge in Carman, MB, at the age of 89 years. Jake leaves to mourn his loving wife Alice, of 64 years and six children, Mary Ann (Garry) Hardy-Wakely of Ft. Macleod, AB; Norma (Garth) Doerksen of Keewatin, ON; Ronald Wiebe (Ann Vadas) of Winnipeg, MB; Janice (Gerhard) Bihl of Prince George, BC; Gwen (Murray) Morgan of Carman; and Allan Wiebe of Carman; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Berg of Morris, MB; Lena Hoffman of Steinbach, MB; and Kay (Phillip) Loeppky of Calgary, AB; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Gerhard and Maria; one brother and one sister in infancy; and more recently brothers, George and Abe of Lowe Farm, MB. Jake was born in Gregorievka, Russia, January 21, 1916. After the death of his father, the family immigrated to Canada in 1925. They spent their early years near Lowe Farm. In 1940 he married Agatha (Alice) Harder at the Sommerfelder Church south of Lowe Farm. Jake's first love was always farming. Jake and Alice spent their first years working for other farmers and by 1943 rented their own land near Homewood and in 1954 near Roseisle. In 1966 Jake and Alice gave up farming and moved to Carman. After becoming employed with the Fort Garry School Division, they moved to Winnipeg, where they resided for 22 years. They returned to Carman in 2000. Whether Dad was farming or carrying out his custodial duties he was dedicated and hard working. His work ethic left him little time for hobbies, although his favourite pastime was playing cards. His caregiving qualities became evident when he helped care for ailing family members. He was truly gifted at this. Dad was always ready and willing to help anyone, whatever their need may be. The family would like to express sincere and heartfelt thanks to all the health care personnel who cared for Jake during this past year. Special thanks to the ACU staff at the Boyne Lodge who always went the extra mile to make him comfortable. Service of remembrance of life will be held for Jake on Monday, June 6 at 2:00 p.m. at the Carman United Church, in Carman. In lieu of flowers charitable donations may be made to the Carman Handi Van, Box 128 Carman, MB R0G 0J0, or to the Boyne Lodge, Box 1644, Carman, MB R0G 0J0. Doyle's Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements. www.doyleschapels.com
