JOAN AIKENS Joan Aikens passed away peacefully, with her family at her side on Saturday, June 4, 2005 at the age of 82. Beloved wife of the late Roman Aikens. Loving mother of Peter Grant of Ashcroft, BC, Jannette Logan (late Arnie) of Lisbon, New York, Robin Scotlend of Winnipeg, MB, Jennifer Phillips (Neil) of Surrey, BC, Ashley Fortney of Richards Landing and the late Michael Fortney of Winnipeg, MB. Proud grandmother of eight and great-grandmother of 12. Joan is survived by several brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Joan was with the W.R.N.S. during the Second World War, British Navy H.M.S. Aggressive in New Haven, England. She landed in Canada in 1945 as a war bride and resided in Winnipeg, MB until 1990. She then moved to St. Joseph Island until her death. Joan was a devoted member of R.C.L. #374, Chair of Cenotaph, Sick and Visiting Seniors, Dr. H.S. Trefry Centre Advisory Board, Member of Matthews Memorial Hospital Association, St. Joseph Island Anglers Hunters Association, Honourary Member of St. Joseph Township Fire Department, member of the Cemetery Board of the Township of St. Joseph, Sault Ste. Marie B.P.A.C. Council and a longtime standing member of the Coastal Forces Association in England. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 374, Richards Landing at 11:00 a.m. The Venerable Hugh Hamilton officiating. Interment Richards Landing Cemetery. Memorial contributions to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
