AUGUST JOHN SCHMETZKO On Sunday, June 5, 2005, at the Victoria General Hospital, August was called Home to be with his Lord and Saviour, at the age of 71 years. Remaining to cherish his memory are his sisters, Mary Foltan (Karl) and Rose Herbstreit; nieces, Monica Wilson (Ken), Barbara Kelpin (Frank) and Ursula Zandvliet (Brian); great-niece and great-nephews, Kevin, David, Stefan, Garrett, Siera and Liam; as well as numerous relatives and friends. August was born on August 4, 1933 in Tardosked, Hungary. His childhood years were spent in Velke Pole, Czechoslovakia. In 1944, he moved with his family to Germany and four years later, in 1948, they immigrated to Canada. The family settled in Fort Garry, where August completed his education and worked as an X-ray Technician. Prayers will be held on Thursday, June 9 at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Vital Roman Catholic Church, 1629 Pembina Hwy. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated also in the Church at 10:45 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Patrick Morand presiding. Interment will follow in the St. Vital Roman Catholic Parish Cemetery, Corner of Crescent Drive and South Drive.
