MICHAEL WIEJAK Peacefully, on Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at Seven Oaks Hospital, Michael (Michal) Wiejak, widower of Stella, passed away at the age of 85. Michael is survived by his daughter Kristina, niece Maria Szymanska, husband Peter; daughter Dorota and son Filip; as well as his sister Janina and many other relatives in Poland. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Michael was born and grew up in Poland. During the Second World War he was captured and sent to the labour camp in Germany. After the liberation he met his wife Stella and they were married in 1945. Michael immigrated to Canada in 1949. His wife and young daughter followed him a few months later. Originally they settled in Bissett, where Michael worked in a gold mine. In 1956, they moved to Winnipeg, where Michael was employed for many years for Swift's. Michael was very active in the Polish community in Winnipeg. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, Royal Canadian (Polish) Legion, Br. 246 and Club Sokol. He was also a devoted father to Kristina, always making sure that all her needs were met. The family wishes to thank Dr. Patel and the compassionate staff on 5th Floor - Unit 6 at Seven Oaks Hospital. Many thanks to the Home Care workers, especially Darlene and Rosemary for their dedication and understanding. Prayers will be held on Friday, June 10 at 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 11 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Ave. with an Oblate Father officiating. Interment to follow in Holy Ghost Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Michael's memory to a charity of one's choice.
