ELIZABETH DOREEN NOBLE Doreen Noble peacefully passed away surrounded by her family on June 2, 2005 in Palliative Care at the Boissevain Health Centre. Doreen was born on April 23, 1926 to Charles and Mary Diehl at their farm near Cypress River, MB. She was the fifth of six children and often shared her happy memories of the family's farm life, baseball games, and family gatherings. Music played an especially important role in Doreen's life. She attended Richmond Hill and Cypress River Schools before her studies led to graduation from Winnipeg Normal School and a career of teaching. Doreen taught at Fairburn and Fairfax schools in the Boissevain area as well as King George and David Livingstone schools in Brandon. During her time at Fairburn School, Doreen met Earl Noble of the Desford district. They were married on November 4, 1950 and built their home in Boissevain. Doreen and Earl raised two children, Ian born in 1956 and Peggy born in 1958. Doreen continued to share her artistic leadership by teaching music in Boissevain schools as well as piano lessons in her home. Doreen took special pleasure from being a member of the Western Manitoba Philharmonic Choir. Doreen gave freely of her time and talents in her community. She was recently honoured for 50 years of service to St. Paul's United Church as choir member and organist. Over the years Doreen played an active role in the Turtle Mountain Festival of the Arts through committee involvement, school choirs, piano students, and as an accompanist. She was a valued member of the Boissevain United Church Women's group, Eastern Star and Beckoning Hills Activity Centre. Doreen's leisure time was filled with curling, bridge games, quilting, knitting, supper clubs, travelling with friends and family, and camping. Some of her favourite moments were spent relaxing by the lakeshore enjoying the company of her children and grandchildren. Doreen was predeceased by her husband Earl, brother Jim Diehl and sister Alice Smythe. Left to mourn her passing are family members Ian, Donna, Kate and Gavin Noble, Peggy, Robert, Colleen and James Cappie, Iris Carroll, Rilda Carr, Les and Anna Grace Diehl, Eleanor Diehl, Luella Noble, Blanche Nobes, Aylmer Noble, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, and many close friends. A celebration of Doreen's life was led by Minister Evelyn Rigby at St. Paul's United Church in Boissevain on June 4, 2005. The service included a wonderful eulogy delivered by nephew Bob Raeburn and a musical tribute from the St. Paul's Choir, nieces and nephews, organist Dale Whetter and pianist Charlene Diehl. Pallbearers were grandson James Cappie, nephews Ryan Carr, Allen Diehl, Michael Diehl, Blaine Wall, and great-nephew Jason Dueck. Honorary pallbearers included the many friends and relatives present at the service. Following interment at the Boissevain Cemetery a delicious lunch was served by the UCW at the Boissevain Legion Hall.
