Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOUGLAS A. DEACON 1946 - 2005 Suddenly on Friday, May 20, 2005, in the arms of his loving wife, a bright light left this world. Doug Deacon's passing leaves an enormous void in the lives of those he showered with profound, unending love and unselfish devotion. Doug honeymooned with his soul-mate, Abbie, who he called his bride, for 20 years. His children, Ryan Deacon and Rhonda Van der Vis will always remember their father as their hero. He will be sadly missed by son-in-law Billy, and grandson Zachary Van der Vis; mother-in-law Norma, and father-in-law Gene Schacter; sisters-in-law Shelley Hanson and Nadi (Paul) Hatcher; and nephews Ari Hanson and Jordan Hatcher. Doug was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Lillian Mae Deacon. Born March 9, 1946, Doug grew up in St. James. He retired as a Sergeant with the City of Winnipeg Police after 25 years service and continued his career as a Private Investigator. Doug was the eternal optimist. He took on life with unwavering enthusiasm. Doug's artistic creations will be forever treasured. He will be remembered for his great gifts of compassion, generosity, creativity, and thoughtfulness, freely shared with all who crossed his path. Doug took special pleasure in nature and loved the outdoors. He spent hours nurturing his pond where he created a magical haven for birds and wildlife. The funeral service was held at Rosh Pina Cemetery. Tributes to Doug were offered by long-time friends and colleagues Don Mc Lean and Wade Wawryk. Pallbearers were: Ryan Deacon, Billy Van der Vis, Freddie Schacter, Jeffrey Schacter, Terry Calof, and Wade Wawryk. The family wishes to offer thanks for the outpouring of love and support at this difficult time. Thank you for always holding the ladder So we could climb higher; For teaching us to see the patch of blue In the grayest sky; And for paving a path of love That will never, ever, die.
