He is survived by his daughter Susan (Dave Galbraith) and their children Amanda and Matthew, son Brian Bouma and daughter Tracey Bouma (Ken). John also leaves to mourn his brother Jack (Donna) and sister Henny Fleck (Stu) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Iempje in 1998 and his father Hendrick in 1989. John was born and raised in Andijk, NH, The Netherlands and came with his family to Canada in 1951. They arrived in Carman, MB, moved to Elm Creek and in 1955 moved with the family to Manitou, MB. After they sold the business, John moved with his children to North Delta, BC, later to Lethbridge and then back to Surrey. In every place he lived, John was involved with the community and the church (an elder), Kinsmen and Toastmasters. He was always encouraging his children in sports and academics, arriving at many events in their camper where he would make dinner. Regarding his children and their accomplishments he had a favourite saying; I don't know how I ever did it all by myself . A memorial service was held on October 29 in Surrey at the Colebrook United Church and some of his ashes were scattered at his favourite beach in White Rock, BC also at a favourite bench on the shore - dedicated to him by his children. A memorial service will be held at the Manitou United Church on June 18, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. John's ashes will be buried in the Bouma family plot at Manitou, MB. Flowers gratefully declined and donations may be made to the Manitou United Church.
