LESLIE WEDGE Peacefully, at his residence on Thursday, June 9, 2005, Les Wedge passed away in his 83rd year. Les is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Iris. He loved and was very proud of his four children, Les Wedge Jr., Lyn and Linda Scott, Darlene Wedge and Terry and Carren Wedge. His three grandchildren, Darren Wedge and Jean and Kevin Scott were very important to Grandpa and he was always glad to see them. Les is also survived by his sister May Vickers; mother-in-law Kay Peterson; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Evie and Harvey Buchanan and Lloyd and Joan Lillebo. He was always glad to visit with his nephews, Larry, Dale, Gordon and Murray Slagerman, Wayne and Rick Lillebo, Ted and Bill Vickers and their families. Les was predeceased by his parents, John and Mary; his father-in-law Sten Peterson; brothers-in-law, Harry Slagerman and Ted Vickers; and granddaughter Melanie. Les was blessed to have many lifelong friends whose friendship he cherished. They are too numerous to mention but you know who you are. Dad was a lifelong member of the East Rosser Community and a 4-H leader in the Rosser Light Horse and Pony Club. He always enjoyed boxing and was a member of the Manitoba Boxing Association and was always willing to move and set up the boxing ring or serve as a driver for matches outside of Winnipeg. Horses were always an integral part of Dad's life from the time he rode Flying Topsy at fairs throughout Manitoba as a youngster, to competing in horse shows with us during our teen years. Dad became an owner/trainer of race horses and his horses competed locally at Assiniboia Downs and at race tracks throughout Canada the States. One of his proudest moments was having Turn to Rule declared Best Older Horse at Assiniboia Downs in 1976. He was still involved in race horse ownership up until the time of his passing. Friends and family are invited to share in the celebration of Les' life on Monday, June 13 at 2:00 p.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, 433 Main St., Stonewall. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation of the Cancer Society. MacKenzie Funeral Home Stonewall in care of arrangements.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • For as long as I can remember, Uncle Les was always there. One story he liked to tell, was when I ran my toy wheelbarrow into my mother, from behind because I was mad at her. When mom asked Uncle Les if the "Little Bugger" did it on purpose, he said "NO", although he knew it had been. This was just one of the times he was there for me. Wish we could have been with you today to celebrate your life. You will always be in our hearts and your visits, wisdom and friendship will greatly be missed. - Posted by: Dale & Paulette Slagerman (Family) on: Jun 13, 2005
