MARION KNELMAN Marion Knelman died Monday, June 13, at the Sharon Home. She was 96 and had for more than a decade been suffering from dementia. The daughter of Israel and Molly Medovy, she grew up on Manitoba Avenue in Winnipeg's North End and attended the University of Manitoba, graduating in 1928 as Silver Medallist in the Faculty of Arts. After taking a secretarial course early in the Depression she went on to become an executive secretary at the Winnipeg office of DeLaval, a dairy equipment firm. She married John M. Knelman in 1935 and subsequently left her job to raise a family. Mrs. Knelman was active in the Winnipeg arts community, particularly the Jewish Women's Musical Club in the 1950s and the Winnipeg Art Gallery from the 1950s until the onset of her illness. She was also an active member of Hadassah-WIZO and the National Council of Jewish Women. Her husband died in 1990. Her brother, Dr. Harry Medovy, also predeceased her. She is survived by her sister, Ida Hecht of Winnipeg; her son, Martin; and daughter, Judith; and grandchildren, Joshua and Sara Knelman and Tom and John Gelmon, all of Toronto. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue. Shiva will be at 146 Magnus Ave. following burial.
