GUY DECAIRE 1928 - 2005 With his family at his side, our beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away at St. Boniface General Hospital on Saturday, June 11, 2005, after bearing his illness with great dignity and courage. Forever cherishing his memory are his wife Marlene; his sons, Leon (Yvonne) and Mitchel (Ximena); his beloved grandchildren, Matthew Guy and Jasmine Lee; his sisters, Paule Kerr (Garth), Lucille Olafson (Leslie), Anita Rasmussen (Henry); his brother Herve (Marcella); and many nieces and nephews. Guy was predeceased by his parents, Josephine and Leon DeCaire; and sisters, Yvette Bakkelund and Edmee Silvester. Guy grew up on a family farm along the Pine River near Pinewood, ON; an area that he fondly referred to as God's Country. He moved to Winnipeg to attend St. Paul's College at the age of 17, and later earned Bachelor Degrees in Arts and Education at the University of Manitoba. He enthusiastically devoted 35 years to the Seven Oaks School Division Number 10, including 20 years as Vice Principal of West Kildonan Collegiate Institute. He thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of life. His passions included gardening, sports, history, fishing at his cabin in the Lac du Bonnet area, time with family and friends, and his two pet huskies. A celebration of Guy's life will be held at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivary Blvd., on Saturday, June 18, at 11:00 a.m. Should friends so desire, memorial donations may be made in the memory of Guy to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB, R2L 1X3. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • He was definitely the brains in the office at West Kildonan Collegiate. The voice of reason and always greeted everyone with a smile. Good guy, for sure. - Posted by: Darryl Ludwig (past student) on: May 02, 2017

  • I was a Student at West Kildonan Collegiate (1979). To this day I remember how Guy used to always have the time if a student needed to talk. Though at the time he seemed tough and stern we now understand it was in our best interest. He seemed to remember you years after you graduated . Now I'm not sure if that meant we left a bad or good impression. I know that he gave his students direction to follow the right path in life. I'd like to thank him for that. Again, my deepest condolences. - Posted by: Debbie Forest (Friend) on: Jun 16, 2005
