ANNA CORNIES October 17, 1914 - June 10, 2005 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Anna Cornies at the age of 90 years, on Friday, June 10, 2005, after several months of declining health, following the sudden passing of her husband, Henry, only six months ago. Mother was born in Einlage, Russia to Johann and Anna Rempel (nee Reimer). In 1941 she married Henry (Heinz) Cornies, and they were able to share joys and sorrows in a loving relationship of 63 years. After the hardship filled years of the Second World War, they immigrated to Canada via Poland and Germany in 1948 with the help of relatives here in Manitoba and the Mennonite Central Committee. They found a caring faith fellowship at Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church, and later at Springfield Heights Mennonite Church, where they were both actively involved. Mother was very involved in the women's group of the church, where many blankets were sewn for MCC and many meals served for weddings and other church functions. Mother was employed as a housekeeper outside of the home for a number of years, helping with finances during the time our parents established a home for us here in Winnipeg. In her later years, Mother took up quilting, and this became a passion for her. She was able to fashion quilts and wall hangings for their home, as well as for all of her children and grandchildren. These will always be a precious memory for us of a very caring and loving mother, who was always concerned about the well being of her children and grandchildren. Mother was predeceased by her parents; four brothers; one sister; a stillborn infant son, Philip, and by her husband in December 2004. She leaves to mourn son Alfred (Ingrid) and daughters, Henriette (Rudy) Schellenberg and Irmgard (John) Buermeyer. She will also be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Teresa (and friend Tom), Philip (and fiancee Rebecca), Stephen, Miriam (Brian) Grunau, Adriane (Jeremy) Wolfe, Christina and Leah, as well as extended family and friends. She is also survived by her youngest brother, Helmut Rempel. We are deeply thankful to the staff at the Grace Hopsice, for the loving care they provided for our mother and for the compassion shown to our family. The funeral service will be held on Friday, June 17 at 11:00 a.m. at the Springfield Heights Mennonite Church, 570 Sharron Bay. Viewing at Klassen Funeral Home on Thursday, June 16 from 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., as well as prior to the service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Concordia Hospital. Although Mother will be sadly missed by her family, we believe that she is in God's care. Rest in peace, Mom. KLASSEN FUNERAL HOME 1897 Henderson - North of McIvor - 338-0331
