Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMELVILLE SALTER After a lengthy illness, Melville Salter, aged 89 passed away at Oakview Place on Sunday, June 12, 2005. Mel was predecessed by his wife of 51 years, Verna in 1993. He will be sadly missed by his daughter Brenda and her husband Ken Smythe and his grandson Michael. Also surviving are his brothers, Eldon (Marlene) Salter of Winnipeg and Orville (Gerry) Salter of Thunder Bay, ON; sisters, Doris Salter of California and Lois Riches of Guelph, ON. Before having a stroke in 2000, Mel had a good life. He served in the Second World War with the Royal Canadian Engineers 2nd Battalion. Mel worked hard as a plumber and was a union member for over 50 years. He was a member of the Khartoum Shrine Patrol until his retirement. Mel enjoyed hunting, fishing and curling and being a member of the Brookland's Rod and Gun Club. Many thanks to the caring staff of 1N at Oakview Place for the care and attention given to Mel. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 17 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity United Church, 933 Summerside St. in Winnipeg. A reception will follow. Mel will be laid to rest in Portage La Prairie, with his wife Verna. It is with great sadness that we heard of Uncle Mel's passing away. Our consolation is that his suffering is over. Uncle Mel was a very special uncle to both of us. We will always have very fond memories of him and his great sense of humour. Our deepest sympathy to the family. Our prayers and thoughts are with all of you.
